Elizabeth Saenz

Elizabeth is a paediatrician, MSc PHDC (London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, MSc MCH, ICH, University College London, UK) and workeds with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) - Prevention, Treatment and Rehabilitation Section/Drug Prevention and Health Branch since 2007 as an expert on drug dependence treatment, and since between 2010 and 2019 as project coordinator at the same branch. In this role, she wasis responsible for the coordination of a portfolio of drug treatment global projects such as Treatnet II and the UNODC-WHO joint programme on Drug Dependence Treatment and Care. These programmes aim at enhancing the institutional knowledge and understanding of the Governments, civil society and UN agencies of evidence-based drug treatment, and at developing and/or improving national, governmental and inter-governmental policies, strategies, plans and cooperation on this issue.  She has also been involved in the development of key technical tools publications produced by UNODC over the past ten years. From 2020, Dr. Sáenz, took on the position as WHO-UNODC Liaison Officer in Geneva, with the aim of promoting the UNODC‐WHO program on drug dependence treatment and care among WHO stakeholders and the dissemination of products of UNODC‐WHO collaboration at WHO meetings and international fora, especially of the “Geneva eco-system”. These programmes aim at enhancing the institutional knowledge and understanding of the Governments, civil society and UN agencies of evidence-based drug treatment, and at developing and/or improving national, governmental and inter-governmental policies, strategies, plans and cooperation on this issue.  She has also been involved in the development of key technical tools publications produced by UNODC over the past ten years. Elizabeth Sáenz is a mother of two.
