Job Opportunity: Consultant for the Pan American Journal of Public Health

The Pan American Journal of Public Health is currently looking for a Consultant to work in the editorial office at Washington, D.C., supporting editorial tasks related to the implementation of new editorial features, translation requests, special issues or supplements, the journal website, the peer-review process, metrics analysis, and graphic layout analysis.

Mandatory skills

  • Proficiency in English and Spanish; advanced knowledge of Portuguese or French would be an asset;
  • Competence in editorial processes, including the management of the peer-review process and correspondence with authors;
  • Ability to write/originate correspondence and reports in English and Spanish;
  • Ability to review or improve texts for consistency, clarity and readability, including proof-reading of manuscripts or other texts;
  • Ability to search and organize technical information and to write or summarize texts in a clear, concise and grammatically correct manner.
  • Ability to effectively use a computer and utilize software programs such as Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint and Outlook.

Desirable skills and assets

  • Knowledge of manuscript management systems;
  • Knowledge in interpretation of metrics from Google Analytics or other software/sites
  • Knowledge and/or experience on updating documents, videos, images and other material in websites;
  • Knowledge in the use of social networks, specifically Twitter and LinkedIn;
  • Knowledge in graphic design programs (QuarkXPress, InDesign, Adobe Professional, etc.).
