Does the Effect of Alcohol on the Brain Differ between Men and Women?

New research published in the journal Psychiatry Research Neuroimaging has found that the effects of alcohol on the reward system in the brain may differ between men and women.

The reward system is a grouped structure in the brain that reinforces positive experiences and is involved in memory formation as well as complex decision-making. It is also implicated in the development of substance use disorders.

Since men and women are known to differ in their psychological profiles, the study was designed to explore whether or not alcohol had a different effect on the brain’s functioning between the sexes.
