The webinar will be aimed at presenting in a broad and understandable manner the main toxicological aspects associated with the use of electronic cigarettes.

Starting from exploring generalities related to the types of devices and their components, the process by which the components of the electronic cigarette enter and distribute throughout the body will be clearly presented, and how from that process they have effects on different areas and functions of the organism, in the short, medium, and long term.

Taking into account that the electronic cigarette is relatively new and its compositions constantly vary, some of the main findings reported in recent research will be explored, in which, based on animal models, in-vitro studies, and some cases in humans, the toxicity of the electronic cigarette has been demonstrated, and some of the main health risks derived from the use of these types of devices have been identified with certainty.

Intended Audience:

  • General population interested in understanding the composition of electronic cigarettes and the risks associated with their consumption.

  • Professionals involved in prevention efforts who wish to strengthen their knowledge about the forms of electronic cigarette consumption and their health effects.

  • Professionals dedicated to substance use treatment seeking to expand their informational resources regarding recent research on the composition and effects of electronic cigarettes.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. At the end of the webinar, attendees will be able to:

  2. Recognise different types of electronic devices, as well as their main components and the harmful effects on health.

  3. Understand the findings of research on animal models and in vitro studies regarding the toxic effects and health risks associated with electronic cigarette use.

  4. Identify potential areas of research and challenges for prevention regarding the toxicity and adverse effects of electronic cigarettes.
