Welcome to ISSUP Uganda
ISSUP Uganda is now a formally established and operative as an ISSUP National Chapter. It is now part of the Global International Society of Substance Use Professionals - ISSUP. The Uganda Chapter will be will be hosted by the Uganda Youth Development Link (UYDEL).
This Chapter will promote the sharing of information and best practice updates in the field of substance use prevention, treatment and recovery within Uganda, as well as creating a platform for the sharing of information with other Chapters and their members throughout the world. It seeks to build a support network of organisations working in the field of drug demand reduction – prevention, treatment and recovery support.
In Uganda, substance use has been described as a problem especially among marginal groups, who are unemployed. However, it is on the rise across all age groups particularly among school children and out of school young people. Substance use cuts across gender, although currently there are more males than females identified as having substance use disorders.
The ISSUP Uganda National Chapter shall therefore strive to address this issue using effective evidence-based approaches. The Chapter is working towards having a professional, well-trained workforce that shares relevant knowledge and evidence-based practices in relation to substance abuse prevention, treatment and recovery support. It will also seek to support policy makers and all practitioners to be more effective in their role in respect to drug demand reduction.
The ISSUP Uganda National Chapter is a platform to share information regarding trends in prevention, treatment and recovery best practices that benefit the members. This is intended to promote a cadre of professionals that utilize and disseminate research that builds on prevention efforts in the country.
ISSUP Uganda is hosted by UYDEL – see About Us page for further details about UYDEL. If you require further information about ISSUP Uganda or have any questions or contributions you would like to make please contact:
