Welcome to our Day 6 - 17th of May

Luciana Bruno - 17 May 2022

Hi everyone.

Another busy day ahead. What was your takeaway so far? Would love to hear you.

Mark Gilman

My take away is simple. We have an international body of evidence based interventions (practice). The implementation of these interventions is assisted (or maybe hindered) by some national policies. These policies may be a reflection of national cultural norms. The great achievment of this event is that we can now start to see the global challenges that face us in each of our member nations. My take away is that this conference provides us with a global template of what is happening where and what the next evidence based steps could be in each country. For example, over the last ten years the UK has made great strides towards evidencing what works to create and sustain individual recovery and communities of recovery. We are now ensuring that Harm Reduction and people who do not have abstinence as a goal for their recovery are not marginalised. My take away is an image of a continuum of evidence based progress that will allow each member state to see where they are and how they might move further along the continuum based on real life examples in other places. Inspirational and exciting. Thank you all

Dear Mark,

I love your takeaways. It is a great feeling to see we are not alone on this journey, right?

Enjoy the rest of the conference!

My take aways are the same as yours. I think advocacy is needed so we can persuade the desicion makers for better policies about evidence based prevention.

My take is how effective would evidence based interventions be implemented in some developing countries  , coupled with the assistances needed. Hence the reasons , networking is very important to assist with the re-tooling of key intervention workers Globally and I do agree with Mark statement on the global  challenges we are presented with in our member nations. Furthermore , I must add  that I am grateful for the ISSUP members who has built a system whereby  the methodology of tools needed for intervention ,training and implementation is accessible on this platform for all members globally.
