The Family Therapy Association of the Gambia (FTAG), a community-based organization registered with the Government of the Gambia in 2012, is the ‘host’ organization for the International Society of Substance Use Professionals National Chapter in the Gambia.
Our vision is to become a well-structured institution striving to achieve drug demand reduction in the Gambia through prevention, treatment, and recovery support, ensuring that the population remains vibrant and ready to move the national development agenda forward.
Our mission is to reduce drug use and abuse in the Gambia through education and sensitization done in collaboration with the Government, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders through prevention, treatment, and recovery.
We intend to achieve these targets by:
- Building community coalitions to prevent drugs from getting into the hands of youths and children
- Being at the forefront of pushing for drug prevention, treatment, and recovery support initiatives
- Engaging policymakers in a partnership that will lead to drug demand reduction with the public
- Establishing a good working relationship with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency of the Gambia in ensuring drug demand reduction in the country.
Our core areas of operation include:
- Providing families with free evidence base prevention mechanisms to support them with strategies to prevent their children from using drugs
- Empowering the youths with factual information on the negative effects of drugs to help them live drug-free lives
- Sensitizing children living outside homes on the dangers of drugs as a way of stopping them from getting involved with drugs
