29 Kasım 2019 tarihinde UYDEL ofisinde bir hazırlık toplantısı yapıldı ve üye alımı, Uganda ISSUP web sitesinin güncellenmesi, 2020 çalışma planı, Nisan 2020'de ISSUP Bölümünün Lansmanı ve gelecek planları hakkında görüşmelerde bulunuldu. Toplantıda ayrıca, ISSUP Bölümünü yürütmenin en iyi yolu hakkında üyelerden daha fazla girdi almak için 12 Aralık 2019'da belirlenen üyelerle bir ilk toplantı yapılması kararlaştırıldı.

Alcohol use can have negative effects on both the body and behavior of an individual living with HIV. Regular consumption of alcohol can weaken the immune system and damage the liver, as well as lead to risky behaviors that increase the chance of getting HIV or passing it on to others.

 

Research has shown that people with HIV who regularly drink alcohol tend to have a higher viral load and lower overall CD4 count.

Both alcohol and tobacco use is an increasing public health concern in low- or middle-income countries. Due to an annual economic growth rate of approximately 10%, Ethiopia is a target for both the alcohol and tobacco industries.

Although data is limited, trends suggest that alcohol consumption is a particular problem among secondary school students.

A recent study, published in the Journal of Public Health, has sought to measure the prevalence of alcohol and tobacco consumption in young people living in Ethiopia, and the risk factors associated with alcohol and tobacco initiation.
