C'è una scarsità di ricerche sui modelli di consumo di droga tra i giovani sieropositivi nell'Africa sub-sahariana (YLWH). Per colmare questa lacuna, è stato stabilito quanto segue:

1. confrontare la prevalenza dell'uso di sostanze, in particolare l'uso di alcol e droghe illecite, tra YLWH e i loro coetanei non infetti da HIV;
2. esaminare la relazione indipendente tra lo stato di infezione da HIV e l'uso di sostanze tra questi giovani;
3. esaminare gli indicatori di rischio per il consumo di sostanze tra questi giovani.
