Naltrexone is an opioid receptor antagonist used in the treatment of both opioid use disorder and alcohol use disorder. By blocking opioid receptors in the brain, it prevents the euphoric and sedative effects of opioids and reduces cravings for alcohol. Available in oral (Revia) and long-acting injectable (Vivitrol) forms, it supports relapse prevention for individuals who have already detoxified.
