This article introduces the emergence of adulterant cutting agents in street drugs in the United States and considers the synergistic effects that is compounding the opioids crisis in the U.S.  The article outlines the role of the Colombo Plan in pioneering identification of these substances around the world over the past years with support from the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL)

This article looks at who receives treatment in the United States in terms of demographic characteristics, addiction severity and drug of choice. While sex, age and race/ethnicity have small effects on treatment utilization, the primary factors leading to addiction treatment in the U.S. are involvement in the criminal justice system and SUD severity.

These key reports come from the US Pain Management task force at the Department of Health and Human Services. There are 5 instructive documents involving information and facts about pain management, the opioid addiction crisis, special populations and their specific needs, and the role of stigma in treating chronic pain. 

In partnership with the National Governors’ Association and Milbank Memorial Fund, the Center for Evidence-based Policy has created CLOUD: Curated Library about Opioid Use for Decision-makers. 

CLOUD's mission is to curate high quality, consumer friendly, evidence-based resources on opioids and the opioid crisis for decision-makers across health care systems, state and local communities, and providers of care. CLOUD strives to be a centralized repository of information to assist decision-making at all levels of the system.
