Kia ora koutou, welcome to the ISSUP New Zealand Chapter.
ISSUP NZ was established in 2026 and is hosted by the NZ Drug Research Team at College of Health, Massey University, Aotearoa New Zealand. The NZ Drug Research Team carry out a range of research related to drug use, drug markets, drug-related harms, health services and policy evaluation, including the annual online New Zealand Drug Trends Survey (NZDTS) in all 16 regions of New Zealand. NZDTS data provides critical data and analysis for government agencies, health providers, addictions specialists, practitioners, community action groups, and informs government policy, regulation and legislation changes.
Our mission is to advance evidence-informed responses to drugs use across prevention, early intervention, treatment, and policy, and foster a cross-sector community of substance use professionals in Aotearoa through research, collaboration, up-skilling and knowledge exchange.
As a newly established ISSUP chapter the Drug Research Team aims to:

Inform effective and adaptable prevention and early intervention initiatives and innovative treatment options, such as online delivery and digital knowledge exchange

Develop relationships and collaborations with ISSUP stakeholders to improve the impact, efficacy and responsiveness of training, skills development and knowledge sharing practices

Create a platform for dialogue on emerging issues in substance use prevention, treatment and recovery in Aotearoa New Zealand, and across the Asia-Pacific

Bridge research and practice by translating knowledge into actionable interventions, initiatives and health service delivery
