  • Understanding Stages of Change

The Stages of Change are a Transtheoretical Model – an integrative, biopsychosocial model to conceptualize the process of intentional behavior change which can be used to assist clients in substance use treatment to progress.

  • Facilitating Treatment Groups

A majority of addiction treatment occurs in group settings so counselors must become adept at facilitating treatment groups and managing client behavior in groups.

  • Conducting Family Psychoeducation Groups

Family groups can be very challenging but also immensely powerful and effective; special skill sets are required to conduct these groups.

  • Teaching Skills to Clients

Beyond clinical interventions, sometimes clients need to be taught skills they have not had modelled or taught when growing up.  This can include budgeting, communication, and a myriad of others that we can teach in individual and group settings.
