Americká národní randomizovaná studie, která má vést k tomu, jak nejlépe snížit stigma při popisu poškození souvisejícího s drogami v praxi a politice
Poškození související s drogami je trvale stigmatizováno, což zpomaluje a zabraňuje zapojení do léčby. Aby se snížilo stigma, byly v diagnostických systémech a mezi národními zdravotnickými agenturami propagovány různé lékařské termíny (např. "chronicky recidivující onemocnění mozku", "porucha"), přesto někteří tvrdí, že nadměrná medikalizace poškození souvisejícího s drogami snižuje prognostický optimismus a snižuje osobní svobodu jednání.
