Apply for In-Person Training at the Thessaloniki 2024 Global Event

The 2024 Global Event will be held in Thessaloniki, Greece between 24th & 28th June, 2024. The event is organised by ISSUP and ISSUP Greece, INL, the Centers for the Prevention of Addictions, the Promotion of Psychosocial Health SEIRIOS and ICUDDR.  The event will take place in the historic center of Thessaloniki, on the premises of the ‘International Exhibition & Congress Centre of TIF-HELEXPO’ and surrounding conference rooms in museums and social institutions.

Substance use disorder is common among people in prison worldwide.

This report explores the experiences of males in prison who completed and those who did not complete a group-based drug and alcohol program, to gain insight into their strategies for reducing harm from drug and alcohol post-release. The authors examine whether a group program may change peoples' perspectives on their drug and alcohol use and whether it supports their planning for abstinence post-release.

The researchers spoke with 22 males in an urban prison.

Treatment for drug and alcohol misuse should involve families and communities

Alcohol and other drug treatment are generally only provided for individuals, often away from their families. Treatment aims to improve well-being and reduce the harms of substance use and families and communities can play a significant role in an individuals journey through recovery.

This article, published in the Conversation, explores the potential role of families in treatment in Australia.

The authors go on to suggest 3 ways of expanding access and creating a family-focused model of treatment.
