Despite repeated warnings and legal punishments, drug addiction continues to spread in Korea, particularly among young adults in their 20s and 30s.
Statistics show that this age group now accounts for nearly 60% of drug-related cases. Director Kim Nami of Sahmyook University’s Addiction Prevention & Recovery Center argues that punishment alone is ineffective.
Instead, she advocates for a connection-centered approach:
On January 16, the Seoul Metropolitan Council’s Special Committee on Drug Prevention Education held its third meeting, chaired by Councilor Lee Jong-bae.
The session brought together council members, education officials, and experts including Professor Kim Nami (Sahmyook University) and Professor Cho Hyun-Seob, in cooperation with the ICAN Headquarters.
Sahmyook University and the ICAN Headquarters have been designated as the official operating institutions of ISSUP Korea, the Korean Chapter of the International Society of Substance Use Professionals (ISSUP).
The 20th International Society of Addiction Medicine Annual Meeting (ISAM BUSAN 2018) will be held from the 3rd to the 6th of November 2018.
The event will include lectures, symposiums, young investigator’s sessions, poster presentations, and a lively social calendar of networking events and sightseeing activities.
