Behavioural Addictions

This refers to a compulsion to repeatedly engage in a rewarding, non-substance-related behaviour, often called a natural reward, despite experiencing harmful consequences. Common examples include gambling, excessive internet use, compulsive sexual behaviour, overeating, or shopping. Like substance addictions, behavioural addictions involve impaired control and continued engagement despite adverse outcomes.
