Dirty

This term traditionally refers to a urine test that indicates the presence of substances, often implying ongoing substance use. However, it is considered stigmatising due to its negative connotation.

It is recommended to use non-stigmatising medical language, such as “an individual with a positive toxicology result” or “a person currently exhibiting symptoms of a substance use disorder,” to promote respectful and person-centred communication.
