ISSUP Paraguay in collaboration with the OAS/CICAD organised the Engaging Youth in Prevention course offered by the Inter-American Drug Abuse Control Commission of the Organization of American States (OAS/CICAD). Through a call for participants conducted in collaboration with Paraguay’s Ministry of Education and National Secretariat for Youth, 15 young leaders completed the training and will join the Inter-American Youth Network.
The five-day course brought together young people for an intensive exchange of ideas, shared learning and collaborative work. Participants explored their role in substance use prevention and developed project proposals to address needs in their own communities, translating their learning into plans for local action.
OAS/CICAD and ISSUP Paraguay will continue supporting participants as they move forward with implementing their projects, helping sustain the momentum generated during the training.
The closing ceremony was presided over by Salma Agüero, Paraguay’s Minister of Youth, and featured the participation of Barbara Correa, ISSUP’s Regional Coordinator for Latin America and Spain; Francisco Giménez, Director of ISSUP Paraguay; and María Asunción Cabral, representing the Norberto Bobbio School of Government and Public Policy, ISSUP Paraguay’s host organisation.
This initiative reinforces a shared commitment to giving young people the knowledge, opportunities and support to take an active role in prevention, strengthening both community action and youth engagement.
