NIDA Frontiers in Addiction Research Mini-Convention

The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) and the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) invite you to the annual 2021 NIDA-NIAAA Frontiers in Addiction Research Mini-Convention*.
The Mini-Convention will be held as a 2-day virtual meeting on November 1-2, 2021.

To share findings from a recent research project aimed at exploring young people’s experiences and impacts of living with parental substance misuse. In addition, we will explore ideas for how we can best support young people whose parents drink alcohol or use drugs.
This webinar aims to discuss the 2020 ISAM global survey project, review the literature on expert surveys and exemplar expert elicitation projects, identify areas for improvement, and outline the potential future directions of the ISAM Global Survey Network.
Population-wide interventions for reducing alcohol consumption: What is the per capita consumption indicator telling us?

Image and performance enhancing drug use in the UK

There are growing health concerns regarding the use of image and performance enhancing drugs (IPEDs), in particular, anabolic androgenic steroids. In response, the National Institute for Health Research awarded a development grant to assess the available intelligence and research gaps to inform intervention evaluation. With support of an active steering group, members of Anabolic Steroid UK Network and special thanks to a dedicated public expert advisory board, this work is now complete. Alcohol consumption is one of the leading risk factors for ill-health globally and in the Americas. Of the approximately 107 million people globally who have an alcohol use disorder (AUD), fewer than 10% receive appropriate care due to numerous barriers, including fear of treatment, privacy concerns, stigma, time conflicts, and limited availability of treatment.
The NordAN Conference and General Assembly meeting will be held in Vilnius, Lithuania on November 19-20, 2021. In case the COVID situation doesn´t allow a physical gathering, the meetings will move online.
