Cunningham, J.A., Godinho, A. Are former heavy drinkers in the UK less likely to identify as being in recovery compared to those in the USA? A pilot test. Subst Abuse Treat Prev Policy 16, 74 (2021). https://doi.org/10.1186/s13011-021-00412-8

The Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) movement created the term "in recovery" to express the continuing requirement for vigilance in order to sustain sobriety (which includes abstinence from alcohol intake) and avoid a return to dangerous drinking. Despite a long history of successful, community-led harm reduction programs and rising health inequalities suffered by PWUD, research collaborations between PWUD and researchers remain generally ignored. PWUDs are crucial in identifying developing concerns in the drug industry, as well as related health behaviors and consequences. PWUD are thus ideally positioned to contribute meaningfully to all parts of the research process, including the generation of research questions, the conceptualization of study design, and the contextualization of findings.

It is suggested that PWUD have unrivaled...

UNODC Nigeria launches DrugHelpNet: A Network of Nigerian Health Professionals to Provide over-the-phone Assistance to Drug Users in Need

Shared by Livia - 9 April 2020

News

Based on the 2019 Drug Use Survey in Nigeria, UNODC estimates that there are more than three million Nigerians living with some of a drug use disorder. Government imposed lockdowns, implemented across most Nigerian States, weigh particularly heavy on people with drug use disorders. While access to drugs has become more difficult, the same challenges apply to accessing treatment and counselling services. The self-imposed isolation can indeed be burdensome for those suffering from drug use disorders as well as their families.

In order to provide immediate and practical relief, UNODC Nigeria...
