Description:

Many of our clients react to strong emotions by trying to get rid of them through the use of substances. Mindfulness can help clients manage uncomfortable feelings and avoid impulsive reactions or acting out. Mindfulness techniques can be added to standard treatment protocols and programs for little to no cost, and they can be used with both staff and clients. These skills will help clients in multiple areas of life and can be utilized closely with other therapies, such as CBT.

The next HepHIV conference will take place 5-7 May 2021 involving participants from across the community, public health and the health system. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the HepHIV2021 Lisbon Conference will take place via a virtual platform. A Portuguese national meeting will be arranged if feasible.

Alcohol and drug use affects the whole family, but less than 30% of people who come to Scottish Families for support for themselves are men. Talking about a problem is the first step to getting help but it can be hard to know who or what to ask when facing substance use in your family.

Our panel will bust some myths about family support and look at the wider issues around men seeking support. We will use feedback from our supporters and we welcome your thoughts and comments on how we can get better at reaching men.

Virtual Learning Lab Description: The purpose of the virtual learning lab is to expand on the information delivered in the presentation, “Applying Prevention Science to Practice: What Implementation Experts Need to Know About Program Fidelity”.

The virtual learning lab will provide an opportunity for conversation between prevention professionals, guided by facilitators, to provide a greater level of detail and understanding into the key concepts of the topics addressed.
