Dear Colleagues,
In substance use treatment, we often focus mainly on the patient. However, research and experience show that the family environment is a deciding factor in whether a person stays sober or relapses.
If a family is uneducated about addiction or high-expressed emotion exists at home, the chances of relapse increase significantly. Conversely, an educated, supportive family acts as a shield against relapse.
What counseling strategies do you use to train families to handle the triggers of recovery? Please share your thoughts and experiences below.
