Opioid Treatment Program

An Opioid Treatment Program (OTP) is a SAMHSA-certified and regulated facility that provides supervised assessment, medications for addiction treatment, and comprehensive care for individuals with opioid use disorders. These programs use medications such as methadone, buprenorphine, or naltrexone as part of a structured treatment plan.

OTPs may operate in various settings, including outpatient clinics, residential facilities, or hospitals, and often provide a range of supportive services, such as:

  • Medically supervised withdrawal or long-term maintenance therapy

  • Psychiatric and psychosocial counselling

  • Case management and recovery support

The goal of an OTP is to promote stabilisation, reduce illicit opioid use, and support long-term recovery through evidence-based medication and behavioural therapies.
