Partial Hospitalization Program

This refers to an intensive, structured form of outpatient treatment that serves as an alternative to full inpatient hospitalization. It provides comprehensive psychiatric, medical, and therapeutic care during the day while allowing patients to return home in the evenings.

PHPs are designed for individuals who require a higher level of care than standard outpatient therapy but do not need 24-hour supervision. Treatment typically includes:

  • Individual and group therapy

  • Medication management and medical monitoring

  • Psychoeducation and skills training

  • Support for co-occurring substance use or mental health conditions

Programs are time-limited and goal-oriented, often lasting from several days to a few weeks. The intensity and structure of PHPs help stabilize symptoms, prevent relapse, and support transition to lower levels of care.

Note: The exact structure and eligibility criteria for PHPs may vary by provider and country.
