The European Web Survey on Drugs collected data between March and April 2021 from people who use drugs, aged 18 or older, living in 21 EU and 9 non-EU countries. During this period the populations in many European countries were experiencing COVID-19-related lockdown or restrictions. Unless otherwise indicated, the data presented here refer to the 48469 respondents who reported having used at least one illicit drug in the 12 months prior to the survey (last 12 months use) and live in one of 21 EU countries covered by the survey and Switzerland

This week the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA) has released the European Prevention Curriculum - a handbook designed for decision, opinion and policy makers in science-based prevention of substance use. The aim of the EUPC initiative is to implement a standardised prevention training curriculum in Europe and improve the overall effectiveness of prevention.

The European Society of Prevention Research (EUSPR) 2021 conference took place online from the 29th of September to the 1st of October.

The Annual Meeting will be held on March 2-5 2022, and is currently scheduled to take place at the Edinburgh International Conference Center in Edinburgh, Scotland.  

The SRNT 2022 Annual Meeting may be a hybrid (part in person, part virtual) or entirely virtual, depending on how things play out in the coming months. A final decision about the meeting format (face-to-face hybrid virtual component vs. entirely virtual) will not be made for some time. Research from the University of Exeter has highlighted how childhood trauma can make individuals more sensitive to the pleasurable and motivational effects of opioids and less sensitive to the negative consequence of the drugs.

The research, which has been published in the journal of Addiction Biology, aimed to assess the impact of childhood trauma on responses to morphine and pain processing.
