Inadequate substance use disorder (SUD) treatment resources for incarcerated women and men with substance use problems leads to a pressing need for services when they are released. Those leaving incarceration were almost 11 times more likely to die of an opioid overdose in the first year following release than the general population.

This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of The Family Empowerment Program- an online delivery of the Community Reinforcement and Family Training (CRAFT) intervention improving the psychological wellbeing and coping resources of Concerned Significant Others (CSOs) of people with substance problems and living in rural and remote Australia.

The increasing challenge of drug abuse necessitates innovative strategies for effective prevention. The ALAB-BBM program introduces a dynamic anti-drug mechanism aimed at developing community-based prevention programs for children of persons who use drugs (PWUDs). This approach combines data-driven decision-making, community engagement, and adaptive interventions to create sustainable impacts.

ISSUP Nigeria presents the 28th session of its bi-monthly webinar in the Knowledge Update Series. This webinar will focus on the topic of 'Understanding the Connection and Promoting Trauma-Informed Prevention in Nigeria'.

Substance use, including cannabis (known locally as marijuana/dagga) use, remains a major global public health concern. Cannabis use among adolescents is associated with significant harms associated with physical health, neurophysiological development, mental health, traffic injuries and violence.

Indonesia confronts significant challenges from widespread drug abuse, impacting public health and leading to high incarceration rates. As of July 2025, the National Narcotics Board (BNN) reports 3.3 million narcotics addicts, with over 147,000 drug offenders constituting 53% of the Indonesian prison population.

This presentation will explore how culturally adaptable, evidence-based prevention programs rooted in school and family setting can be scaled across borders to address substance use and mental health challenges in diverse, low resource communities.
