Dynamic Anti-Drug Strategies for Sustainable Community-Based Prevention for Children of Drug Users

This presentation will be featured at Indonesia 2025, on the 17.09.2025.

Author: Dr. Maricel M. Lim

Abstract:

The increasing challenge of drug abuse necessitates innovative strategies for effective prevention. The ALAB-BBM program introduces a dynamic anti-drug mechanism aimed at developing community-based prevention programs for children of persons who use drugs (PWUDs). This approach combines data-driven decision-making, community engagement, and adaptive interventions to create sustainable impacts. The project focuses on building resilience and utilizing community resources to reinforce protective factors within families and local networks.

The mechanism continuously evaluates and responds to the evolving drug-related issues in a community, using information from local health data, social media, and community feedback for timely action. A participatory strategy ensures active community involvement in developing, implementing, and assessing preventive interventions.

This action research collaborates with local government units, law enforcement, CSOs, families, volunteers, and anti-drug advocates to assess the needs of children of PWUDs. Data was collected through qualitative and quantitative methods, including interviews, surveys, and focus group discussions, to evaluate the effectiveness of strategies. The research aims to create adaptable, scalable prevention models that foster healthier environments. By ensuring ongoing adaptation, the program contributes to more resilient and effective drug abuse prevention in communities.
