INTRODUCTION: This systematic review aims to synthesise and summarise the available evidence on the definitions of craving and withdrawal, the nature and presence of withdrawal symptoms, the duration of abstinence, the prevalence and nature of craving.

RESULTS: A total of 29 studies met the inclusion criteria. Inconsistencies were revealed in definitions of craving and abstinence, as well as in the specific withdrawal symptoms that might be present among players. The 2024 Global Event will be held in Thessaloniki, Greece between 24th & 28th June, 2024. The event is organised by ISSUP and ISSUP Greece, INL, the Centers for the Prevention of Addictions, the Promotion of Psychosocial Health SEIRIOS and ICUDDR.  The event will take place in the historic center of Thessaloniki, on the premises of the ‘International Exhibition & Congress Centre of TIF-HELEXPO’ and surrounding conference rooms in museums and social institutions.

The new draft guideline on harmful gambling recommends health professionals should ask people about gambling if they attend a health check or GP appointment about a mental health condition. 

These guideline aims to ensure that those needing help or who are at risk of harmful gambling are identified sooner and receive appropriate help.

Consultation on the draft guideline is open until Wednesday 15 November.
