هذا الأسبوع ، نقول وداعا لصديقنا العزيز ومعلمنا ، جيف لي ، المدير التنفيذي المؤسس ل ISSUP. كان جيف مدافعا ثابتا عن إضفاء الطابع المهني على الوقاية ، وأصر على أن العاملين في هذا المجال يجب أن يكونوا متخصصين بشكل مناسب. غالبا ما ذكرنا أنه في حين أن الأطباء العامين والمتخصصين في العلاج يتمتعون بحسن نوايا ومتأصلة بعمق في مجتمعاتهم ، إلا أنهم ليسوا دائما في وضع أفضل لتطوير وتنفيذ أنظمة الوقاية القائمة على الأدلة. أكد جيف أن الوقاية يجب أن تعامل كعلم متميز - علم يرتكز على بحث صارم ويسترشد بالتدخلات المستمدة من قاعدة أدلة مناسبة للسياق ، بدلا من اختيارها لمجرد أنها تبدو واعدة.

تعقد مفوضية الاتحاد الأفريقي مشاورة قارية سنوية لخفض الطلب على المخدرات منذ عام 2015.  وتمثل كل من الدول الأعضاء في مفوضية الاتحاد الأفريقي جهات الاتصال الوطنية المعنية بنزع السلاح والتسريح وإعادة الإدماج التابعة لها، مما يتيح للدول الأعضاء فرصة لعرض الأنشطة الوطنية لنزع السلاح والتسريح وإعادة الإدماج في منصة لاستعراض الأقران تتيح أيضا المشاركة مع الخبراء المتخصصين المدعوين.  وعقدت مشاورة هذا العام في أروشا. تنزانيا في الفترة من 10 إلى 13 ديسمبر 2024 ، وضمت قادة تقليديين من جنوب إفريقيا. وكان موضوع مشاورة هذا العام هو "الوقاية خير من العلاج: نحو تعزيز الصحة والأمن والرفاهية الاجتماعية...

أجرت ISSUP Kenya مؤخرا دورة INEP Plus في كينيا مع مجموعة من خمسة (5) مشاركين أكملوا الدورة بنجاح وحصلوا على تقدير لجهودهم. هؤلاء المشاركون هم مستشارو الإدمان من تخصصات متنوعة في مجال الحد من الطلب على المخدرات.

تميز حفل التخرج بعشاء احتفالي ومناقشة ثاقبة حول استراتيجيات تنفيذ الدروس المستفادة من INEP Plus في المشهد الكيني للوقاية من تعاطي المخدرات. وأتاح الحدث فرصة فريدة للمشاركين لتبادل الأفكار واستكشاف الأساليب العملية لتعزيز جهود الوقاية في البلد وفي جميع أنحاء المنطقة.
