Following a successful Universal Prevention Curriculum (UPC81) Engaging Youth in Prevention training held on the 12th to the 16th of January, 2026, at the Mokolodi Nature Reserve, the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) hosted a certificate award ceremony for the participants.

The Sekgoma Memorial Hospital Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Centre in Serowe is expected to be fully operational by November this year, according to government officials. During a recent inspection of the facility, health leaders emphasized the urgent need to complete the project to provide critical addiction treatment services to the public.

Last week the Botswana Association of Addiction Professionals - BAAP / ISSUP Botswana had the honour of participating in the Botswana Police Service Youth Dialogue panel discussions, centred around the theme: "I Am Affected: Breaking the Cycle of Gender-Based Violence, Substance Use, and Improving Mental Health."

The Colombo Plan’s Drug Advisory Programme (DAP) organised a Training of Trainers (ToT) on Engaging Youth in Prevention in Kochi, India, from 8th to 13th September, 2024. This training brought together drug demand reduction professionals from Africa and Asia to enhance their capabilities in engaging young people in effective prevention initiatives.

Evidence-based programmes on recovery, prevention and treatment for people suffering from Substance Use Disorders will soon be rolled out across the country, the Chief Health Officer, Alcohol and Substance Abuse Division in the Ministry of Health, Phenyo Sebonego has confirmed.
