Sekgoma Memorial Hospital Drug & Alcohol Rehab Centre Set to Open Soon

The Sekgoma Memorial Hospital Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Centre in Serowe is expected to be fully operational by November this year, according to government officials. During a recent inspection of the facility, health leaders emphasized the urgent need to complete the project to provide critical addiction treatment services to the public.

Originally scheduled for completion in May 2022, the rehab centre, located at the old Institute of Health Sciences, has faced multiple delays. Challenges included initial design uncertainties and funding gaps, which slowed construction progress. Despite these setbacks, the contractor has assured that key parts of the project are nearing completion and has committed to handing over the facility by the end of September.

Government representatives stressed the importance of teamwork and swift action to meet this new deadline. "The public needs this service now, we must move from talk to action," one official stated.

Once operational, the rehab centre will provide much needed support for individuals struggling with substance use disorders, marking a significant step forward in Botswana’s addiction treatment services.
