On 2 September 2026, ISSUP Nigeria held a strategic engagement with the Department of Youth Mental Health of the Federal Ministry of Youth Development to explore opportunities for collaboration in advancing youth mental health and wellbeing across Nigeria.
ISSUP Nigeria was represented by its Abuja State Coordinator, Dr Adaamu Saadatu, and members of the FCT branch team, who met with the Director of the Department of Youth Mental Health and his team.
The engagement, held as part of ISSUP Nigeria’s Youth O’Clock initiative, explored potential areas of collaboration including youth mental health awareness and prevention, capacity building, school- and community-based interventions, research, digital mental health support, and strengthening referral pathways for young people.
A key highlight of the meeting was the introduction of VibeCheck, ISSUP Nigeria’s digital platform designed to support screening, early identification, brief intervention and referral.
The meeting also resulted in an agreement in principle to establish a Joint Youth Mental Health Working Group, bringing together representatives of the Ministry and ISSUP Nigeria. The proposed working group will provide a structured platform for developing joint initiatives, identifying priorities, coordinating activities and tracking their impact.
ISSUP Nigeria looks forward to building on this engagement and working with the Ministry to translate the Youth O’Clock vision into practical and sustainable initiatives that support the mental health, wellbeing and resilience of young people across Nigeria.
