Abel Basutu is a Programme specialist with extensive experience in policy formulation and
advocacy
, management and implementation of technical cooperation projects in diversified development fields including drug use prevention and
treatment
, and protection of children’s rights (in particular tackling online child sexual exploitation and abuse); He started his career as a journalist and is a nine-time winner of Reuters’ international news agency media excellence awards. He trained as an Auditor with Ernst and Young Chartered Accountants and holds a PhD in Business Administration.
He previously worked for the Zimbabwe Inter-Africa News Agency, World Food Programme (WFP), World Health Organization (WHO), and International Labour Organization (ILO). He currently works for the African Union Commission as a Senior Programme Officer, Drug Control.
