The ISSUP Bahamas Chapter, in partnership with The Gambling & Substance Use Addiction Program of the Public Hospitals Authority Sandilands Rehabilitation Centre, successfully conducted two impactful prevention sessions in Grand Bahama on 26 March 2026.
Students from primary, junior, and senior high schools, along with about teachers and administrative staff, attended and participated in these interactive 60-minute sessions held at St. George’s High School Gymnasium and Eight Mile Rock High School Gymnasium.
The sessions focused on:
- Understanding addiction (with emphasis on gambling, vaping and other substance use)
- Recognising early warning signs in young people
- Promoting healthy decision-making and coping strategies
- Encouraging help-seeking and peer support
Students were highly engaged, actively participating in discussions and activities, while educators expressed that the sessions were timely, relevant and much needed.
This outreach continues to strengthen national prevention efforts by equipping young people and educators with the knowledge and tools to address addictions and risky behaviours early.
