Human Rights-Based Training to Strengthen HIV Prevention Programs in Bangladesh

Save the Children International in Bangladesh, in collaboration with the International Society of Substance Use Professionals (ISSUP) Bangladesh Chapter, successfully conducted the third batch of the five-batch training program titled “Human Rights Orientation for Law Enforcement Agencies to Strengthen HIV Prevention Programs in Bangladesh” on 20–21 September 2026.

The two-day training focused on protecting the human rights of key populations, the role of law enforcement agencies in HIV prevention, non-discrimination, gender sensitivity, empathy, dignity, and rights-based service delivery. The training included presentations, discussions, experience sharing, and interactive sessions.

The sessions highlighted the interconnection between mental health, human rights, and HIV prevention, with particular emphasis on empathy, dignity, non-discrimination, and a rights-based approach in the work of law enforcement agencies.

The five-batch training program was inaugurated on 13 September 2026 by Suman Sengupta, Country Director, Save the Children Bangladesh, with the commencement of the first batch.

This initiative represents an important step towards promoting a more inclusive, compassionate, non-discriminatory, and rights-based approach to HIV prevention in Bangladesh.
