Substance Use Disorders Recovery with a Focus on Employment and Education

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) has issued Evidence-Based Resources Guide Series. The Guide Series is a comprehensive and modular set of resources intended to support health care providers, health care system administrators, and community members to meet the needs of individuals at risk for, experiencing, or recovering from Substance Use Disorders.

A specific guide is focused on Substance Use Disorders Recovery with an emphasis on Employment and Education provides an overview of issues, challenges, policies, and practices related to employment for individuals in recovery. It summarises the state of the science through an evidence review of the known effectiveness of programs providing employment supports to individuals with SUD. It describes relevant research, examines emerging and best practices, identifies knowledge gaps and implementation challenges, and offers resources. Finally, the guide provides expert panel consensus recommendations of key program elements to support individuals with employment-related recovery.
