The Addiction Professionals of Kenya had the opportunity and privilege of having a tete-a- tete meeting with the President-Elect of the Republic of Kenya, His Excellency Dr. William Samoei Ruto, before his inauguration on the 13th September 2022 as the new President of the Republic and Commander in Chief of the Defence Forces.
The team comprised Treatment, Prevention and Recovery Professionals and was led by Dr. Richard Gakunju (Trustee, ISSUP Kenya), Dr. Susan Gitau (Vice President, ISSUP Kenya) and Mr. Boniface Ndirangu (Chairperson of the Addiction Prevention and Recovery Association of Kenya – APRAK).
The meeting explored key areas of collaboration with Government, including Certification and Credentialing of Addiction Professionals, application of Evidence–Based Prevention and treatment approaches, adoption of Universal Prevention and Treatment Standards, Drug policy initiatives and the overall capacity building of these professionals in all the 47 counties of Kenya.
