ISSUP met with Vice Minister of Internal Security, Commissioner General Director Commander Carlos Humberto Benítez Gonzalez, at Paraguay’s Ministry of the Interior, to explore opportunities for international cooperation on substance use and drug related issues.
Bárbara Correa, ISSUP’s National Chapters Regional Coordinator for Latin America and Spain, participated alongside Francisco Giménez, Director of ISSUP Paraguay, who plays a key role in facilitating dialogue and collaboration between ISSUP and government ministers. Participants also included advisers from Plan SUMAR and representatives of the National Police involved in efforts to address drug trafficking and related offences.
Discussions focused on training initiatives, regional conferences, activities engaging young people, and potential joint projects. The meeting provided an opportunity to identify areas of collaboration to strengthen institutional capacity, exchange experiences and support coordinated work with specialised organisations.
Through this dialogue, ISSUP continues to build partnerships that support workforce development and strengthen responses to substance use across the region.
