During September, history was made in Freeport, Grand Bahama, as 16 officers from the Royal Bahamas Police Force’s (RBPF) Domestic Violence Unit proudly graduated from the UTC 21 Trauma-Informed Care Training Programme.
This internationally accredited course equipped officers with essential skills in:
- Basic Counseling Skills
- Intake, Screening, Assessment, Treatment Planning, and Documentation
- Case Management & Crisis Intervention
- Trauma-Informed Care for Adults
The Graduation Ceremony was attended by senior Royal Bahamas Police Force leadership, Kirsty Fitzpatrick from ISSUP Global, and keynote speaker Assistant Commissioner of Police Janet McKenzie, OM, MSc., who highlighted the importance of trauma-informed approaches in policing.
Certificates were given to officers who met the international certification standards, and special awards acknowledged exceptional academic performance, facilitation, and leadership.
The Trauma-Informed Care (UTC 21) course successfully achieved its goals, providing RBPF Officers and stakeholders with evidence-based knowledge and practical skills to improve their work in domestic violence intervention. With a 95% overall satisfaction rating and clear knowledge gains, this training has raised the standard for professional development within the RBPF Domestic Unit.
