The ISSUP Bahamas Chapter, in partnership with Sandilands Rehabilitation Centre, has launched the 5th Cohort of the Universal Treatment Curriculum (UTC) for Substance Use Disorders.
The programme commenced on 23 February 2026 and will run until 6 May 2026, delivered in a hybrid format combining in-person and virtual sessions. A total of 23 professionals from a multidisciplinary team at Sandilands Rehabilitation Centre are participating in the training.
The training is facilitated by internationally certified addiction professionals led by Mrs Joeanna Curry, Ms Paulette Ann Dean, and Brenda Smith.
Purpose of the Training
The Universal Treatment Curriculum is designed to strengthen the knowledge and skills of professionals working with individuals affected by substance use disorders by promoting evidence-based treatment practices and internationally recognized standards of care.
Benefits
Participants gain enhanced competence in addiction science, screening and assessment, treatment planning, counselling approaches, and recovery management. The training also promotes stronger multidisciplinary collaboration, improves the quality and consistency of treatment services, and contributes to building a highly trained addiction workforce in The Bahamas.
This initiative reflects the ongoing commitment of ISSUP Bahamas and Sandilands Rehabilitation Centre to advancing professional development and improving outcomes for individuals, families, and communities affected by substance use disorders.
