UYDEL and Church of Uganda Partner to Promote Drug Prevention

The UYDEL team, host organisation for ISSUP Uganda, partnered with the Church of Uganda, with support from UNODC and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, to conduct awareness sessions for young people at Kaliro High School in Iganga, St. Stephen’s Secondary School, and Nabukalu Secondary School in Bugiri.

More than 1,000 O-Level and A-Level students were reached at Kaliro High School, while 3,339 young people participated in the sessions at St. Stephen’s Secondary School and Nabukalu Secondary School.

The sessions covered drug prevention, safeguarding, child protection, child trafficking, sexual exploitation, crime prevention, joining productive groups, and making positive life choices. The activities included role plays, question-and-answer sessions, lectures, and interactive discussions.

Using the River of Life approach, Dr. Rogers Kasirye encouraged young people to reflect on their life journeys, make informed choices, resist peer pressure, avoid risky behaviours and places, build resilience, and embrace positive values.

The sessions also strengthened safeguarding awareness by empowering learners to identify, prevent, and report abuse, exploitation, and violence, while promoting safer schools and communities.
