Bi-Monthly Webinar: ISSUP Nigeria Knowledge Update Series (Seventh Session)

ISSUP Nigeria are pleased to present their next Bi-Monthly Webinar in the Knowledge Update Series. This Webinar will focus on the topic 'Opioid Use Disorders: Presentations and Management'. 

Learning Outcomes:

  • Learn about what opioids are and their main effects
  • Highlight factors that may be responsible for opioid use disorders
  • Enumerate signs and symptoms of opioid use disorders
  • Learn about medications used in the management of opioid use disorders and expected outcomes

Presenter: Dr. Dauda Sulyman

Dr. Sulyman obtained his MBBS from the University of Ilorin in the year 2000. He started his residency training in Psychiatry at the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Enugu in 2004 before moving down to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, Ilorin in the year 2006 to continue his training. He became a fellow of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria in 2010. He was appointed as a consultant psychiatrist at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi in 2012, where he was the Head of Department of Psychiatry for 9 years. He is currently a chief consultant psychiatrist at the Drug Abuse Treatment, Education and Rehabilitation Unit of the Department of Behavioural Sciences, University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria.

He is a Master Trainer in TREATNET Volume C package and has organized many training sessions on TREATNET at ATBUTH, Bauchi. He is also a Master trainer in the Mental Health Gap program in Nigeria. He also participated in DrugHelpNet, an emergency response program for drug users during the covid-19 pandemic organized by UNODC Nigeria.

He is a member of many technical committees such as Association of Psychiatrists in Nigeria (APN) suicide prevention response, SURPIN (Suicide Research and Prevention Initiative). He has many publications to his credit on drug use problems in both local and international journals. Dr. Sulyman is the North East Coordinator, International Society of Substance Use Prevention and Treatment Professionals (ISSUP Nigeria Chapter).
