Commemoration of the International Day of the Girl Child
Empowering Girls for a Drug-Free Future: Liberia Marks The International Day of The Girl child.
On October 10, 2025, Girls Against Drug Liberia (GAD-L), in collaboration with Concerned for Youth Progress (CONYOP) Liberia, joined the global community in commemorating the International Day of the Girl Child under the theme “The Girl I Am, The Change I Lead: Girls on the Frontlines of Crises.”
Aligned with the campaign slogan “Get High on Your Dreams, Wellness and Health — Not Drugs,” the outreach was conducted at F_Sham of Faith Girls Academy in Paynesville, Liberia. The event aimed to highlight the importance of empowering girls to become agents of positive change in their communities, while addressing critical issues such as drug and substance use prevention, sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR).
The International Day of the Girl Child serves as a global reminder of the need to invest in girls’ education, health, and leadership. It underscores that when girls are protected, educated, and empowered, they play a transformative role in achieving sustainable development and building resilient societies.
During the event, facilitators led interactive discussions and awareness sessions that encouraged girls to make informed life choices, prioritize wellness, and resist the pressure of substance use. The outreach also promoted a message of equality, leadership, and community engagement, fostering the next generation of female leaders committed to a drug-free Liberia.
Girls Against Drug Liberia expresses sincere appreciation to its facilitators, partners, and the F_Sham of Faith Girls Academy family for their collaboration and support in making this initiative a success. Together, these efforts continue to advance ISSUP’s shared vision of strengthening prevention and youth empowerment in substance use response across communities.
