On Wednesday, 3 June 2026, Sandilands Rehabilitation Centre (host organisation for the ISSUP Bahamas National Chapter) proudly celebrated the graduation of 22 healthcare professionals who successfully completed the Universal Treatment Curriculum (UTC) Substance Use Disorders (SUD) ECHO Training – Cohort 5.,
Held under the theme “Equipped to Serve, Committed to Heal,” the ceremony recognized participants for their dedication to advancing their knowledge and skills in the prevention, treatment, and recovery support of individuals affected by substance use disorders.
Mrs. Brenda Smith, Assistant Director of ISSUP Bahamas, delivered the welcome address. She congratulated the graduates on their achievement and encouraged them to continue applying the knowledge and skills acquired throughout the program to improve outcomes for individuals affected by substance use disorders. Opening remarks were brought by Ms. Tamara Davis, Deputy Hospital Administrator, Sandilands Rehabilitation Centre, who commended the graduates for their perseverance and commitment to professional development. Mrs. Thelma McKenzie, Principal Nursing Officer, Sandilands Rehabilitation Centre - Dr. Shamel Rolle-Sands, Director, PHA Academy -Ms. Phyllis Baron, Representative, Organization of American States (OAS), Bahamas brought greetings. Each speaker acknowledged the significance of workforce development and encouraged participants to continue serving as leaders and advocates within their respective disciplines
Ms. Paulette Dean, Senior Nursing Officer, Sandilands Rehabilitation Centre and Director of ISSUP Bahamas, provided an overview of the UTC SUD ECHO Training Program. She outlined the objectives, curriculum content, and achievements of Cohort 5, emphasizing the programme's role in enhancing participants' competencies in addiction treatment and recovery-oriented care.

- Outstanding Performance Award – Ms. Kadeshia Bridgewater
- Benevolent Award – Mr. Jason Symonette & Ms Antanisha Mackey
- Most Improved Award – Ms. Waldia Francois
