Police Intervention and Coordination with the Health Network for Addressing Individuals in Mental Health and/or Psychoactive Substance Use Crises.

ISSUP Paraguay and the Norberto Bobbio School of Government and Public Policy are conducting a course titled "Police Intervention and Coordination with the Health Network for Addressing Individuals in Mental Health and/or Psychoactive Substance Use Crises." This course is designed for 300 officers from the Paraguayan National Police and comprises 100 hours of instruction.

This hybrid training program aims to optimize police intervention during critical incidents involving mental health and psychoactive substance use. The curriculum is structured into four thematic modules covering:

Module 1: Paraguay’s institutional, regulatory, and public policy framework regarding mental health and psychoactive substances.

Module 2: Police intervention in mental health crises.

Module 3: Psychoactive substances, care networks, and multi-agency responses.

Module 4: Integration and assessment: In-person session and final evaluation.

Furthermore, the training program aligns with the SUMAR Action Plan—the government's public policy on addiction—to promote safe interventions grounded in a human rights approach.

To obtain certification, participants must meet virtual and in-person attendance requirements, pass the quizzes, and successfully complete a final integrative assessment.
