In an effort to have safer and more efficient consults, UVA implemented the eConsult model for the inpatient setting. In the midst of the COVID-19 response, this also means less exposure and use of PPE and resources. As an early adopter of the eConsult model, UVA had a robust ambulatory program. However, inpatient eConsults required certain changes to the work-flow, in addition to applying new billing and coding parameters.
