Drs. Kariisa and Roehler will provide an overview of CDC’s Enhanced State Opioid Overdose Surveillance (ESOOS) program. We will highlight the three key strategies CDC is employing to improve opioid-related overdose surveillance.

The 14th World Congress of Biological Psychiatry, a biennial conference of the World Federation of the Societies of Biological Psychiatry (WFSBP), will take place in Vancouver, Canada, from 2 - 6 June 2019.

‌The MARC Spring event will deliver a programme of training and talks about clinical academic addiction activities in the UK from leading experts and current MARC fellows.

Thursday afternoon will deliver training and skill development in publishing your work. Speakers include Niall Boyce, Editor of Lancet Psychiatry and Dr David Kessler, Reader in Primary Care at University of Bristol.

There are many factors which affect alcohol harm including pricing, availability, marketing, treatment accessibility and quality, and drinking cultures. But as well as forming part of the problem these factors offer potential solutions.

The American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry employs several mechanisms to provide the latest information on issues critical to the treatment of addictions, the Annual Scientific Meeting and Scientific Symposium is its primary and most visible activity. 

Though it has become mandatory for public health facilities to become smoke-free it has been difficult to implement this policy in particular in detox, drug and alcohol units and mental health units.

Particularly complex in-patients in detox units have smoking patients objecting to a smoke free environment, commonly flout regulations, become argumentative and often self-discharge.
