E-Cigarettes and Passive Smoking: Is There a Risk?

E-cigarettes are becoming more and more popular. As such, many in the field of drug prevention and treatment are eager to uncover how they affect our health. E-cigarettes do not contain tobacco. However, it has been found by researchers at the University of Barcelona and the Catalan Institute of Oncology that their emissions do contain cancer-causing compounds, as well as benzene and nicotine. These, in turn, can affect bystanders via second-hand inhalation. Those in charge of the ongoing study hope that its findings will lead to changes in legislation to better protect the population from the potentially harmful effects of e-cigarettes.
