Monitoring Drug Use in Recreational Settings across Europe

The European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA) have released their latest technical report “Monitoring Drug Use in Recreational Settings across Europe: Conceptual Challenges and Methodological Innovations”.

The report explores the benefits and challenges of monitoring drug use in recreational settings. Using the most up-to-date theoretical and experimental advancements within the field of contemporary drug research, the publication seeks to open up a dialogue between researchers and with monitoring agencies.

As well as analysing data collection methods and tools with a particular focus on the benefits of target population surveys, the report addresses the complex issue of determining a universal definition of ‘drugs’ and ‘recreational settings’.

The report aims to encourage discussion around the definition, conceptualisation, collection and use of data on substance use, in recreational settings across Europe.
